Position Overview
The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent works closely with the Golf Course Superintendent in managing daily golf course maintenance operations. This individual will play a key role in supervising staff, executing cultural practices, and preparing the course to consistently meet high member expectations. In addition, the Assistant will gain valuable project management experience during upcoming renovations and will be hands-on with the implementation of autonomous mowing equipment.

Key Responsibilities
- · Daily Operations & Agronomy
- o Assist in planning, scheduling, and supervising daily maintenance practices.
- o Maintain and improve turf health through mowing, fertilization, irrigation, and pesticide applications.
- o Monitor course conditions and make proactive recommendations to the Superintendent.
- o Ensure safety, efficiency, and quality of all maintenance practices.
- · Staff Leadership
- o Train, direct, and motivate the maintenance team.
- o Assist with hiring, onboarding, and developing seasonal and full-time staff. Lead crews during daily tasks, special projects, and tournament preparations.
- · Renovation & Capital Projects
- o Support the Superintendent and contractors during upcoming course renovation projects.
- o Gain valuable project management experience in construction oversight, grow-ins, and infrastructure upgrades.
- o Learn best practices in budgeting, scheduling, and communications related to large-scale agronomy projects.
- · Technology & Innovation
- o Assist with the introduction and integration of autonomous mowing equipment.
- o Learn to operate, program, and maintain new turf technologies.
- o Help establish best practices for blending traditional maintenance with modern innovation.
- · Professional Development
- o Work closely with the Superintendent to create a personalized development plan.
- o Attend regional GCSAA and local turfgrass association events and educational seminars.
- o Build a strong professional network while preparing for a future Superintendent role.
Qualifications
- · Degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- · 1–3 years of golf course or turf management experience.
- · NYS Pesticide Applicator’s License (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
- · Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- · Willingness to learn new technology and contribute to an innovative team culture.
- · Passion for delivering exceptional playing conditions and growing as a professional.
Compensation & Benefits
- · Competitive salary of $65,000-$72,000, commensurate with experience.
